It’s no surprise that a lawsuit for the violation of constitutional rights by the IRS has been filed by the Tea Party. The NorCal Tea Party Patriots allege that they received “intensive and intrusive scrutiny” by the IRS while applying for tax-exempt status.
The lawsuit fights on the behalf of all conservative and libertarian groups that have been targeted by the IRS, beginning in March of 2010 until the middle of May. The Tea Party is seeking $20 million in monetary damages.
The lawsuit is supported with 15 letters harassing the conservative groups; all stamped by Lois Lerner, the IRS boss of the tax-exempt office. Lerner has been placed on paid administrative leave.
More lawsuits for targeting by the IRS may arise.
